Perry's Cave - Perry's Cave, registered as on Ohio Natural Landmark, is a NATURAL limestone cave
steeped in historical tradition. The cave lies 52 feet below the surface of South Bass Island in
Lake Erie. The discovery of the cave, in 1813, is credited to Commodore Oliver Hazard Perry, hero
of the battle of Lake Erie. The cave is 208 feet long by 165 feet wide; the walls, ceiling and
floor are heavily encrusted with calcium carbonate deposited by centuries of water dripping from
the ceiling. The temperature remains in the vicinity of 50°

State Park - The South Bass Island State Park is located on the west end of the island and is located on the same site as the
famous Hotel Victory, which once occupied the entire park site. In addition to being a historic location, the park also
offers a great amount of family fun. There is more than enough to keep a whole family occupied at the State Park.
The park offers jetski and boat rentals, a dock to fish from as well as a boat launch. The beach will keep
the kids entertained as well as playground equipment.

A favorite among campers, the park offers 120 non electric sites as well as 11 full service sites.
The park also offers shower facilities and also permits pets at designated sites. Because the park is popular
and there are a limited number of sites, campers are urged to make reservations. Reservations can be made daily from
7 am to 8 pm by calling 1-866-OHIOPARKS, or you can reserve a site on the Internet 24 hours a day
at www.ohiostateparks.org.
